Bio
Hi! I’m Emma and I’m a senior IMM major with a double minor in Japanese and Chinese. Outside of classes, I also worked as the President of TCNJ Taiko and as a performing member in TCNJ Dragonflies in addition to being on the E-Board of TCNJ JSA for 3 out of my 4 years at TCNJ as the Secretary/Graphic Designer.
Development process and tools:
The tools I used were Unity, Clip Studio Paint, and Photoshop. Unity was for creating the game/project and CSP and PS for the art and editing of the art.
How does this play into your professional/creative goals? What do you want to do with this, after this?
Adding it to my portfolio would be nice! I want to work as a game artist and part-time digital illustrator freelancer, so this would be a nice example of my work to show to others.
How is this work likely to impact the world beyond TCNJ?
I didn’t have huge plans for this project, but what I do hope is that for the people who play through it, they’d be able to relate to it (both character and story) and feel better knowing that adulting ain’t easy and that they’re not alone in feeling the way they do.
Biggest challenge/hurdle you overcame and how?
Coding and Motivation. Although the coding wasn’t all that fancy for this game, I still had to refresh myself in the beginning as I hadn’t coded in a while. But looking through my old class notes and looking up tutorials online really helped. As for the big lack of motivation that hit me with the COVID situation, I managed to overcome it thanks to the friends I had as we both suffered together as well as pushed each other forward.
How you adapted to COVID situation:
Luckily for me, the COVID situation didn’t affect me in any way other than giving a big hit to my motivation. However, having friends to suffer with and pushing each other forward, I managed to finish the project.
Did you collaborate with others? How?
I mainly worked on my own on this project. However, I did reach out to one of my close friends through emails to record a few lines on her viola to add to the bg music and sound effects I was making for the game.
